Sources within the ruling Janata Dal-United say CM Nitish is likely to take a big decision on Tuesday (July 18). Insiders say Nitish has deferred his decision in view of the President election today but has made his stance clear to Lalu Yadav's Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) that there will no compromise over the issue of corruption.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi too had a word with Nitish Kumar on Friday (July 14) and is said to have asked him not to make any move which could put the grand alliance in a spot of bother ahead of the Presidential election. Nitish's JD(U) has given enough hints that the CM's image is more important to it than sticking to power.

Those who are threatening of having 80 MLAs with them should not be in any kind of confusion. It will not take us even 5 minutes to quit government, power," JD(U) spokesperson Ajay Alok had told India Today. "Power is least important for us," he said adding that the party was not satisfied with Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav's response over allegations of corruption.

Lalu Yadav's son Tejashwi has been named by the CBI in a disproportionate assets case and the RJD has repeatedly made it clear that he won't resignation as the case was a conspiracy hatched by the Bharatiya Janata Party .

Leaders of both the alliance partners are of the view that Nitish and Lalu should sit, talk and resolve issues rather than allowing the Opposition an easy opportunity to take advantage of their differences.

"Coalitions may see tensions and pressures but everything is all right in the Grand Alliance," said Janata Dal-United spokesperson Neeraj Kumar.

Without naming Nitish Kumar, who is also JD(U) president, he said that the able leadership manage to get out of the crisis that erupted after the CBI filed a corruption case against Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav - the younger son of RJD chief Lalu Prasad - and solve it.

"I appeal to Nitish Kumar with folded hands to solve the crisis and save Mahagathbandhan from split," he said, adding that the BJP has been trying to split the alliance.
